🍸 Ktm 1090 Adventure R Reliability
Leaning towards AT for its reliability/ easy maintenance and cheaper price but I have to put crash bars and center stand ect on it . But Iam in love with the KTM 1090. Already has everything I need but Iam intimidated with my lack of knowledge and future maintenance $ BMW I've only heard great things . Also intimidated with lack of knowledge .
The 790/890 platform has been plagued by reliability issues which has been well documented on the internet. The only issue I’ve had on this specific bike was a failure on one of the front brake lines due to metal fatigue. KTM assessed the failure and concluded that the brake line was too short. This caused tension on the brake line every time

NE Indiana. I found out today that when you take your 1290 in for the 600 mile break in service, the techs reset the service warning light. When they do this they set when the next reminder goes. So mine just went off at 4000 miles. They said even though KTM suggests service at 9500 miles, they think that's too long and recommend an oil change

The 950 adventure and the 990 adventure wanted somehow to be the “replicas” of the dakar models, leaving the customers with some impressive experiences in terms of maneuverability and torque, but quite some challenges in regards to fuel consumptions and reliability. The dealer is giving me a sweet deal for the KTM (arriving in January), because the price difference between the 2 is only $3800, and that includes the Tech Pack for the KTM. If it would have been a 2022 890 adv, I would have gone with the T7, because I find the 890 wind protection much more problematic for me (very noisy and difficult to manage).
KTM marketed the 1190 Adventure (they now have a 1090 & a 1290) as a dual sport. I'll go down a dirt/gravel road, but even if I had the 'R' model, which has stiffer suspension, dual purpose tires, and a few other offroad features, wouldn't take 500 pounds very far from pavement.
